Where We Are Now
In 2015, Tamani Nursery School will have grown to a full fledge nursery school with a total of 53 students across three Kindergarten classes.
Also in 2015, we piloted a Primary program, providing our first nursery graduates an opportunity to continue their primary education with Tamani. Given the success of the pilot program, we are now in the initial phases of constructing our new primary campus, which will be launched for the 2016 school year, having a capacity for six grades over the next 3 years.
In addition to our regular academic activities this year, Tamani organised activities to strengthen our nursery and adult education program, in alignment with our philosophy of holistic development. These activities included medical and dental camps, field trips to various locations around Zanzibar, and foreign volunteers joining us to strengthen our strategic and academic outlook.
In addition to providing academic foundations, Tamani also strives to provide the basic primary needs of the students, engaging the parents, and providing the larger community to benefit in various ways. This includes hiring a local villager to make the daily porridge, asking parents to contribute a small amount for daily porridge and fruits, uniforms being sourced from a local tailor, and establishing a Parents Committee which allows the administration and parents to stay connected over the course of the year.
